The 12th edition of the Atlàntida Mallorca Film Fest, 2022, already has a programme. Its director, the Mallorcan Jaume Ripoll, has unveiled the programme for this new edition of one of the island’s most important film festivals. It will be held in person between 24 and 31 July, and the actress Isabelle Huppert and the filmmaker Sergei Loznitsa will receive the Master of Cinema Award. A total of 70 films, 12 concerts, numerous talks and meetings with the film industry will be presented. In addition, for the first time the Atlàntida Mallorca Film Fest will have an Official Section with 10,000 euros for the best film. The jury for the award will be made up of Leticia Dolera, Eneko Sagardoy and Nacho Vigalondo, as well as young students Mateu Bibiloni, Paula Martín and Sophi Burgüer.
Among the well-known names who will land in Mallorca for the festival are Marina Abramovic, Gaspar Noé, Annie Ernaux, Alain Guiraudie, Fernando Trueba, Amaia and Rita Payés.
Opening of the Atlàntida Mallorca Film Fest 2022
The Atlàntida Mallorca Film Fest kicks off on 24 July with the national premiere of Ramona, the first feature film by Andrea Bagney. A Special Session at the La Misericòrdia Cultural Centre will feature Marina Abramovic. The Seven Deaths of Maria Callas, in which she shares the leading role with Willem Dafoe, will be screened. The Serbian artist, winner of the Princess of Asturias Award, will also be the subject of an exhibition at the Horrach Moyà Gallery in Mallorca. This session will be rounded off with a concert performance by Rita Payés.
The closing ceremony will feature the presentation of awards by the jury, critics and the public. There will also be an Honorary Master of Cinema Award. After the awards, the latest work by Goya winner Kike Maíllo will be screened: El falsificador, about the fascinating figure of the Catalan artist Oswald Aulestia Bach, one of the greatest art forgers in history. This documentary will close the Atlàntida Mallorca Film Festival on 31st July. The screening of the documentary will be preceded by a piano concert by Amaia, created especially for the festival.
Among the highlights of the 12th edition of the Atlàntida Mallorca Film Fest will be Gaspar Noé, who will bring Vórtex to the island. The director of The Stranger by the Lake, Alain Guiraudie, with An Anonymous Hero. The Polish Jan P. Matuszynski will premiere Warsaw 83, a matter of state. And the Spanish-British Luc Knowles will arrive with his debut, Dragonflies. Another of the most striking films on the programme will be the national premiere of Pacifiction, the hypnotic and stimulating new proposal by the always audacious Albert Serra. Among the international presences will be that of the filmmaker Sergei Loznitsa, preceded by a concert by the Catalan pianist and singer Marina Herlop.
In total, 22 feature films make up the Official Selection, of which 13 are presented in competition, whose leitmotiv is the dilemmas and conflicts faced by the new generations. Interesting titles will also be screened out of competition and the focus will be on the conflicts and problems of the LGTBIQ+ collective, with a concert by Rocío Saiz and Jimena Amarillo. Atlàntida Literary, Atlàntida Talks… The programme of the Atlàntida Film Fest 2022 is one of the most complete in recent years, including numerous musical concerts: Cecilio G, Rojuu, Varry Brava, Bejo, Alis, Meneo, Baaldo, Marcelo Criminal and Ortiga, Marina Herlop, Jimena Amarillo, Tarta Relena, Rocío Saiz, Rita Payés and Amaia.
The official venues of the event are such emblematic places in Palma as La Misericordia, Ses Voltes and Sala Rívoli. The activities held in outdoor venues will be free of charge, and screenings in cinemas will have a reduced price of 4 euros.
